What Type Spark Plug Socket For Lawn Mowers

The spark plug in your lawn mower is for easy starting and effective operation of your mower. Without a spark plug, your mower will not be able to start. So, you can understand the importance of a spark plug in your lawn mower.

Vehicle Spark Plug vs. Lawn Mower Spark Plug

Well, you know that the spark plug used in both vehicle and lawn mowers for ignition of the fuel and mixing the fuel in the gas cylinder chamber. The energy principle of both vehicles and lawn mowers spark plug is the same. They use the high pulse voltage for forcing an electric spark for jumping across the gap and the outer electrode.

However, although the responsibility and working criteria of both vehicles and lawn mowers spark plug are the same. But a spark plug can’t be used in both vehicles and mowers at a time due to some physical differences. The difference you will find in its types and gaps, size and length of the tread.

Types and gaps of spark plug:

You are supposed to know that the flathead engine is also known as a side-valve or L head engine. This type of engine is used for a walk-behind mower or sometimes for pressure washers. In this case, the standard resistor spark plug replacement part can be 5095 or 796112S, 802592S. The gap of the spark plug is 0.030-inch.

On the other hand, the number of replacement spark plug for EMS or Electromagnetic Spark plug is 697451 along with the gap 0.030-inches. For more clarification, you can go through the user manual that comes with your lawn mower.

Size issues:

Well, I have already told you that there are some significant changes in your mowers spark plugs thread size. The spark plug you find in the market may not fit all in your mowers. That’s why you should go for your one. To determine the accurate size of your spark plug, you should check the user manual. You can consult with a professional though.

In general, The thread size of a spark plug range from 10 to 12mm, whereas the vehicle’s spark plugs thread size is about 14mm. You will need a spark plug socket of 13/16 and 3/4-inch. This one is the most common size used for dealing with your spark plug.

Length of thread:

Lastly, the thread length issue. The spark plug of your lawn mower has a shorter thread length than the vehicle. The thread length of a lawn mower spark plug is about 3/8-inch, whereas the vehicle or automobile spark plugs thread length is about 3/4-inch.

Purchasing the Right Spark Plug for Lawn Mower

Using the previous spark plug:

Going through your manual:

Apart from the previously mentioned way, there is another way to follow. You will get a user manual with your lawn mower. There you will find all the detailed specifications of each and every part of your mower. You should trust your manual blindly. Go accordingly as they say. Thus, You will find your one.
